Before completing his doctorate of dental surgery degree from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, Dr. Knoll earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of California, Riverside. After completing dental school, Dr. Knoll served his dental residency in Birmingham, Alabama. While in Alabama, he continued his studies and completed a medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, going on to serve an internship in general surgery and a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Dr. Knoll is a member of several dental and oral surgery organizations, including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association, and the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. 

In addition to his practice at California Oral and Facial Surgery, Dr. Knoll is an associate faculty member in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry – University of Pacific in San Francisco. Dr. Knoll also serves as a staff surgeon of the Oral and Maxillofacial Department at Contra Costa County Medical Center in Martinez, California.
